Salsa Dance is not the only thing taught to you, when I teach. You will learn to listen to the music and feel the music in your soul.

Salsa Dancing is my 'niche' in life that I was missing! When I started Salsa Dancing a few years ago, I Thought to myself, " Wow this is a Challenge and invigorating at the sametime."

Once I was introduced to this wonderful dance, that was it for me, I was hooked!!
Since that time, I practiced at least 4x's a week, and attended all the dances and functions related to Salsa dancing.
I have also made many wonderful friends in the Cuban community, where I have learned alot about the culture and their dance.

In my travels with Salsa, I also attended the Salsa Rueda Congress in Miami, Florida in November 2007. I worked with the Latino Student Union at Oswego State College in 2007, teaching Salsa Dance to them and choreographed dance routines at their annual dinner. Not to mention, I was fortunate to do a dance performance at their dinner, while I am also an Alumna of Oswego State.

In the past year I have gone into elderly programs and danced Salsa for them and taught them some basics to salsa.
Some of my dance students and myself have gone into the schools to introduce salsa dancing.

We attended holiday events for handicapped students and worked with them in learning to dance Salsa. This group in particular was so happy that we were there and they loved Salsa. The smiles that were on their faces, made my whole week complete.

Over this past summer, I atteneded many Latino Festivals ranging from Syracuse, Rochester, and Albany. I got to see, listen, and dance to: Andy Montanez,
Tito Nieves, Tito Allen, and Johhny Rivera. Excellent Experiences all related to Salsa Dancing.

I also utilize my dance experience to coordinate fundraisers.
One year I held a New Years Eve dance fundraiser to benefit the church that we used to hold dance classes in.
Just this past spring, I held a,"Latin Dance Night," fundraiser for Miguel Sotelo. This fundraiser was a great success and brought in $2,700. For this man and his family. I want to thank the dance community and all those who participated, especially Son Boriqua, and DJ KiKi.
Salsa Dancing is what I love, and you will see that when you attend one of my classes. I bring great energy to the dance floor and my energy is contagious.
You will truly fill your mind, body, and soul when you dance Salsa.

This past February, I added Bellydancing to my repertoire to enhance my motion for Cuban Salsa Dancing. Always in effort to improve my dancing Salsa.

I currently teach Salsa in the Pulaski, New York area with my son Joseph and my dance partner Jorge. Any questions or interest in my classes, feel free to contact me, Shelley (315)387-6504.
I look forward to seeing you on the dance floor.

SALSA DANCE CLASS UPDATE

The new 6 week series of classes have begun. There are many of our dancers that have come back for the next round of partnering and Rueda De Casino.
In this 6 week session there will be emphasis on Frame, bodywork(Motion), and style.

In Cuban Salsa Dancing, Motion in some sense can't be taught, because it must come from within the individual and from the music. My theory is that I can help students be aware of the motion within themselves and when the music changes and when to use their bodies to the music.

There are still many areas in Cuban Salsa that we can make and use our own style of dance. Also, when someone is taught a specific move, they may add their own moves and create their own dance within Salsa.

A few weeks ago, Laura Gonzalez and Jose Torres showed the class a move they know and it worked out well. Part of the move they taught the class is a good exercise in Salsa that helps and connects to other moves in partnering and Rueda. Gracias, Laura and Jose.

One of the goals I have at this time is to build a core dance group, to be able to go out into the communities and perform at events. To show and make people aware of our dance. If anyone has an event that they would like to have our group dance at, just contact me.

Moves taught this week: Avion, Barracuda, Silencio, and Hecho. These moves will be Focused on, because they lead up to many more moves in partnering and Rueda.
Dance Events for the weekend: Friday February 1, @ 9p.m.
